WHO AM I

I am a spiritual pilgrim. Joyfully so. Forsaking all other goals, I found the path to the heart and along the way, I looked for and found teachers and teachings to help me realize the way to peace by finding it within.

And, grace was with me as the guide. I have sat with some who are considered masters and others, who I call friends, who continue to inspire me. Some are known, but most are hidden in humility and everyday life. They all inspire me to be truly alive and to continue in my devotion to love, mercy, compassion and forgiveness.

I have been trained in traditional psychotherapy and have worked with many populations from adolescents, inmates, in addiction programs and psychiatric facilities, all while continuing my studies in the spiritual approach to healing.

And, this is what I extend to clients and the friends  who allow me to teach and facilitate study groups as well as chanting and other meditations and contemplations of the great paths to Truth.

We are all holy. We are all one. This is truth and this is reality. There are many paths to this One Sanctuary.

Call It by any Name.

My continued purpose is to support the practice of compassion and facilitate the cultivation of tools and skills to alleviate the suffering caused by false identification with the impermanent ego self! To help us remember the One, the Self, the Christ, the Buddha…. so many ways to describe the indescribable.

I am a grateful and joyful student and teacher. I believe in laughter, especially at ourselves.

And, I have a gift of simplifying the complex and of bringing laughter to the difficult work of deconstructing this false self! We are alive for a reason and we are here to bring the light we are and the light we have within our hearts. This takes dedication and devotion. It takes guts and courage. And, it requires support through others. So, let’s gather to heal, to encourage hope, and to keep alight the flame of kindness and compassion that is within us.

We can summarize it simply with this great teaching:

Lord, lead me from the unreal to the Real.

Lead me from the darkness to the Light.

Lead me from death to Immortality.

When Nellie walked in, I was blown away by her “huge” personality and bold laugh. I knew immediately that she had true joy which only comes from within. I watched her intently that evening as she interacted with the others, spoke to us about her journey to India, and led us in prayer and meditation. Her compassion and love for others was expressed openly and proudly. When the evening ended, I was overwhelmed and speechless because I had never been able to quiet my mind and I have never felt that peaceful in my entire life. I felt as though I had been holding onto a gift my whole life and Nellie gave me permission to open it.

Cathy H., Severna Park, MD

“Nellie, I have come to you many, many times over the years for counseling and for help of a spiritual nature. The frequency of my visits have now given way to fewer sessions as I have been led to a deeper understanding of myself and my life. You always said that what you did was a “peeling away of the layers” obscuring the light that is my true and eternal essence. With the addition of the work we have done on A Course in Miracles and the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying I am now at a place of peace and contentment. This is a lifelong practice and one that needs constant attention. When I feel “stuck” or dispirited I reboot at one of your renewing retreats and, occasionally, give myself the gift of an additional private session with you. You have truly changed my life and ……as the Buddha might say (NOT)……that’s supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! ”
